Santa Claus Village Rovaniemi sits right on the Arctic Circle, 8 km north of the city centre, and it is open every day of the year. The busiest stretch is the Christmas season: from 30 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 the Santa Claus Office opens daily from 08:00 to 20:00, reindeer and husky rides are running, and the snow is usually deep. Walking around the village is free. You pay for the activities, the shops and the official photo with Santa.
Arriving on the morning train or flying out late? Leave your bags in Rovaniemi city centre and take bus 8 up to the Arctic Circle without them.

What to Do at Santa Claus Village Rovaniemi
Meet Santa at the Santa Claus Office
This is why most people come. You queue through the building, then get a few minutes with Santa. Meeting him is free. You can’t take your own pictures inside, and the official photos and videos are sold afterwards. In December the queue can be long in the middle of the day, so go when the doors open at 08:00 or in the evening.
Santa Claus Main Post Office and the Arctic Circle line
The post office is free to enter. Cards you send from here get a special Arctic Circle postmark, and you can order a letter from Santa for someone at home. Outside, a line painted across the square marks the Arctic Circle. Everyone takes a photo standing over it.
Reindeer, huskies and snow
- Reindeer: Santa Claus Reindeer runs its winter season from 30 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. Short sleigh rides go round a track in the village, and longer ones start later in the season.
- Huskies: the husky park on site offers short rides in December. For a longer run where you can try driving the sled, book a husky farm outside town.
- Snowman World: ice slides, a snow maze, skating and an ice bar. It opens in early December and is popular with families.
- Santa’s Snowtubing: open from 3 December 2026 to 21 March 2027.
- Christmas House Santa Claus: open 23 November to 23 December and 26 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, with long hours (08:00–22:00) on 24 and 25 December.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the Village
The village stays open over Christmas, but many places close early. On 24 December, Mrs. Santa Claus Christmas Cottage is open 10:00–15:00, Santa’s Pets and the snowtubing hill 11:00–15:00, and the Polar Taste restaurant 09:00–13:00 (closed on the 25th). The Iittala shop is closed on both days. Marimekko and Pentik open 10:00–16:00 on the 24th and 12:00–19:00 on the 25th. If you’re coming for Christmas itself, book meals in advance and eat earlier than you would at home.

Tips for Visiting at Christmas
- Dress for -15 °C or colder: thermal layers, a proper winter coat, warm boots, a hat and mittens. Many activities include overalls, but the walk between them doesn’t.
- Daylight is very short in December, only a few hours around midday. Plan outdoor rides for that window and save Santa and the shops for the dark.
- Book reindeer and husky rides, Snowman World and Christmas dinners ahead. The week before Christmas sells out.
- Half a day covers the village. Spend the rest of your time in Rovaniemi itself: the Arktikum museum and the Christmas lights on Lordi’s Square are both in the centre.
Luggage Storage in Rovaniemi
Lots of visitors see Rovaniemi on a tight schedule: the night train arrives in the morning, the flight home leaves in the evening, and check-in or check-out times don’t fit in between. Snowy pavements and a bus up to the Arctic Circle are no place for a suitcase.
Radical Storage has verified partner locations in Rovaniemi city centre, around Lordi’s Square and Rovakatu. There are none inside the village itself, so drop your bags in town before you catch bus 8.
