A Lifesaver Before Check-in, But Do the Math I used Radical Storage at the Oxford Castle location when I arrived in the city hours before my hotel check-in. The convenience is undeniable. The "shop" is essentially the reception desk of the Oxford Castle Inn pub/hotel, right on New Road. The staff were friendly, the process took 2 minutes, and I was free to explore the historic Castle Quarter unburdened. My backpack was stored securely in a back room. The insurance (up to €3000 per item as advertised) provides peace of mind. Booking online or via the app is mandatory and super easy. This is a premium service for ultimate convenience. The daily rate is per bag. For one small backpack for 6 hours, I paid about £6. Always compare the price with the official left luggage lockers at the Oxford Bus & Train Station (Gloucester Green), which are much cheaper for short periods. For me, the extra £3 was worth saving the 15-minute walk to the station and back. Location is Key: This spot is perfect if you're: - Exploring the Castle, Prison, and the Westgate Centre. - Arriving from the coach station (it's a 3-minute walk). Heading to the train station (a 10-12 minute stroll). If your day is centered farther east (e.g., the University museums, High Street), the station lockers might be more geographically logical. Don't expect rows of lockers. Your bags are tagged and kept behind the hotel reception. This felt secure to me, but if you prefer a self-service locker with a key, go to the station. The pub/hotel reception has long hours, but it's not 24/7. Double-check the Radical Storage app for the latest times, especially if you need a very early pick-up or a very late drop-off. An excellent, secure, and efficient service if the price-per-bag works for your budget and the location suits your itinerary. It's a lifesaver for spontaneous, luggage-free exploration. For longer storage or multiple large suitcases, definitely price-check the station options first.

How should I arrive to the Edinburgh Castle from the Airport of Edinburgh?

In order to arrive to the Edinburgh Castle from the Edinburgh Airport, there are a few convenient transportation options. First of all, the most convenient and straightforward option is to take a taxi or use a rideshare service. Since outside the airport terminal, there are dedicated taxi queues where taxis are readily available, it should be really easy to find the ride. The drive from the airport to the castle typically takes around 25 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

An alternative to this could be the Airlink bus service. In fact, the express bus runs between the airport and the city center, making multiple stops along the way, which might be convenient for you. You can catch the Airlink bus right outside the terminal building, and it offers a comfortable and cost-effective way to reach the castle. From the final stop in the city center, you can either walk up the historic Royal Mile or hop on a local bus that will take you closer to the castle gates.

If you instead want to use public transportation, there are countless local buses that links from the airport to the city center. The bus stops are conveniently located outside the terminal building, and various routes connect the airport to different parts of the city. Once in the city center, you can again walk up the Royal Mile or transfer to a different bus that serves the castle area.

How to reach the Edinburgh Waverley Station from the Edinburgh Castle

If you want to reach Edinburgh Waverley Station from Edinburgh Castle, here’s the list of the most convenient options available.

Certainly, walking is the most straightforward way to get between these two locations, which will allow you to explore the city. It takes 15 minutes to cover the distance of around 0.8 miles. Simply head east from the castle down Castlehill, then continue onto the Royal Mile. Once you reach Market Street, turn right and follow it down until you reach the entrance of Edinburgh Waverley Station.

You could also think about taking a taxi or rideshare service, that can be found outside of the castle. It’s an easier and faster method, especially helpful if you have heavy luggage or are unable to walk for an extended period. The journey only takes around 5 minutes depending on traffic.

However, there are bus services available that could link you to the place. Outside the castle, along the Royal Mile, you can find bus stops with multiple routes heading towards the city center. You could take the bus number 6 to the Princes Street stop, which is only a short walk from the station. Additionally, bus numbers 23 and 27 also pass by Waverley Bridge, which is adjacent to the station.

Lastly, if you prefer the train, you can catch an Edinburgh-bound train from Haymarket Station, located in the west of the city. The journey to Edinburgh Waverley Station only takes a few minutes. Once you arrive at Waverley, you can easily access the city center or catch connecting trains to other destinations.
