Mestalla Stadium Guide 2026: Bag Rules, Capacity, Nou Mestalla, Tour, Getting There & Luggage Storage

Mestalla stadium guide: the stands of Mestalla in Valencia

Mestalla Stadium is Valencia CF’s steep, loud, century-old home on Avenida de Suècia, ten minutes’ walk from the city centre and one of the last great old-school grounds in La Liga before the club moves to the Nou Mestalla. Entry rules are the standard Spanish set, applied firmly: bags no larger than A4, searches and ID checks at the turnstile, no glass or outside alcohol, and no bag storage at the stadium. This guide covers the bag policy and prohibited items, the current capacity and the Nou Mestalla timeline, the Mestalla Forever Tour, how to get there from Estación del Norte and the airport, and luggage storage two minutes from the ground.

Arriving with a backpack? Store your bags two minutes from Mestalla, open until 23:00.

Mestalla Bag Policy and Prohibited Items

  • A4 maximum. Handbags, clutches, belt bags and clear bags up to about 21 x 30 cm are admitted after a search. Backpacks and anything larger are refused at the gate.
  • No bag storage. Mestalla Stadium has no cloakroom or lockers, and a refused bag means a walk back into town.
  • ID checks. La Liga tickets are personalised; stewards can ask for photo ID and refuse entry if you can’t show it or won’t open your bag.
  • Sunflower seeds (pipas) were banned from the stands in 2025 after a cleaning crackdown, which tells you how seriously the club polices the small stuff.

Mestalla Capacity and the Nou Mestalla

Mestalla Stadium holds about 49,430, with the famously steep Gol Nord and Gol Sud ends that give the ground its reputation for noise and vertigo. Its replacement, the Nou Mestalla in the Benicalap district, has been under construction on and off since 2007; work resumed in January 2025 with a €322 million financing package, and the club is targeting the 2027–28 season for the move to a fully covered 70,044-seat stadium. No opening date has been confirmed. Until then, every Valencia home game is at the old Mestalla, which is the reason to visit while you can.

Mestalla Forever Tour

The Mestalla Forever Tour takes in the press room, the dressing room, the players’ tunnel and pitchside, the presidential box, the trophy room and the club chapel. Adults (13–65) pay €16.10, children aged 5–12, retirees and disabled visitors €13.50, under-4s go free. Hours change by month and the tour is suspended or shortened on match days, so check valenciacf.com before you travel. There are no lockers for luggage on the tour.

Aragón is the busiest exit after a match; Facultats, five minutes north through residential streets, is the calmer one. A single Metrovalencia ticket covers the trip, and a SUMA 10 on a Móbilis card is cheaper for a few days. Evening games finish around 23:00 and the metro runs until about midnight on weeknights, later at weekends.

Matchday Tips

  • Arrive an hour early. The turnstiles on Avinguda de Suècia are narrow and the ID checks slow things down.
  • Pre-match: the bars along Avinguda d’Aragó and around Plaça de l’Ajuntament fill up from two hours before; Mestalla’s own concourse options are limited.
  • Cashless inside the stadium.
  • Steep stands: the upper tiers are not for anyone with vertigo; the Tribuna is the gentler option.
