The Lucerne Christmas market on Franziskanerplatz runs from 3 to 21 December 2026, with about 70 stalls in front of the Franciscan church in the old town. It isn’t the only one. From 20 November, Rudolfs Weihnacht fills Inseli-Park on the lakeshore next to the station, and smaller markets pop up on the Weinmarkt, Kapellplatz and at the Hofkirche through December. Everything is within a 15-minute walk of the station, entry is free, and you pay in Swiss francs.

Franziskanerplatz
This is the traditional old town market and the one most visitors mean. Around 70 stalls fill the square by the Franziskanerkirche on the left bank of the Reuss, selling decorations, crafts, candles and food. It opens later than most Swiss markets, on 3 December, so if you visit in late November you’ll find the lakeside market open but this square still empty. The organisers’ website has the stall list.
Rudolfs Weihnacht in Inseli-Park
Right on the lake beside the KKL concert hall and a couple of minutes from the station, Rudolfs runs for the whole Advent season. There’s a fondue chalet, a music chalet open until midnight, food trucks and bars, a flea market hut at weekends and a yurt for children. On weekdays the gift stalls only open at 14:00, so come in the afternoon if you’re shopping.
Weinmarkt, Kapellplatz and the Hofkirche
The craft market on the Weinmarkt is held on six days in December, with local makers selling handmade goods on one of the prettiest squares in the old town. Venite, an international Christmas market on Kapellplatz next to the Chapel Bridge, runs for four days from 17 to 20 December. The one-day market at the Hofkirche on Saturday 5 December is small but worth timing a walk for.

Tips for Visiting
- Visit between 3 and 21 December if you want both main markets open at once.
- The Venite market weekend (17 to 20 December) is the busiest time in the old town.
- Add a lake cruise or a trip up Pilatus or Rigi in clear weather. The views of the snowy Alps are worth the cold.
- Swiss prices apply, so check the boards before you order and carry a card plus a few francs in cash.
