Used this service twice, once when arriving to Athens and once when leaving, both great experiences! Staff will scan your QR, takes photos of your luggage and gives you a ticket. They store the luggage right next to them at their desk so they're watched every time. We left our luggage there for 5-7 hours each time without any issues. If you plan to leave it before their closing time make sure to ask if they want you to pick it up earlier.

Good experience overall. Booked with Radical Storage same day. We paid 3€ extra for flexible pick up and drop off but it was kinda unnecessary since I thought this location said it’s 24 hours but there’s not always an attendant there. Luckily we discussed a tentative time of pick up while dropping off our bags and that did not conflict as to when no one would be there. In case of emergency, we also got the telephone number of the owner (I presume). He was very nice and the storage was just up a couple stairs from the check-in desk in a locked closet. Had no issues picking up our luggage later and we didn’t get all the luggage at once either. I was surprised they didn’t have a system about whose luggage is who’s or a number tag to ensure no one steals someone else’s luggage on accident. They were not terribly busy so maybe it’s not an issue here but it may be a good idea to implement.

The owner was very nice; even though my flight was delayed, he accommodated my schedule. He was incredibly polite, friendly, and kind. I was initially worried because the shop was closed, but it turned out I just had to call him to come out. It was a great experience. Thank you!

Luggage storage in Keramikos with Radical Storage

Keramikos is an emblematic neighborhood in Athens, Greece, renowned for its rich history and significant archaeological heritage. Nestled near the city center, this area was once a bustling pottery workshop hub, providing its name, ‘Keramikos’, which evokes images of clay artisans and their craft. Today, it stands as a remarkable blend of ancient history and modern urban life, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Athens.

The centerpiece of Keramikos is the ancient cemetery, which dates back to the 12th century BC and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the city. This cemetery offers a fascinating glimpse into the funerary customs of ancient Athenians and is home to numerous notable tombs decorated with exquisite sculptures and inscriptions. Visitors can walk along the well-preserved pathways lined with remarkable sights that narrate stories of life and death in ancient Greece.

A Historical Overview

During antiquity, Keramikos served as both a residential area and an important artistic center. It was here that pots, vases, and various ceramic artifacts were crafted, some of which have become vital to our understanding of ancient Greek culture. The site was not only a place for production but also for the display of art, with workshops and galleries emerging throughout the region. Over the centuries, Keramikos transitioned from its thriving past into a more subdued role, yet its legacy remains deeply embedded in the fabric of Athenian society.

Archaeological Highlights

The archaeological site of Keramikos is one of its most significant attractions. This expansive area includes the remains of the ancient city walls and a variety of temples dedicated to different deities. A prominent feature within the site is the Sacred Gate, an ancient entrance that connected the city of Athens with the outside world, symbolizing the connection between the living and the divine.

Within the museum at Keramikos, visitors can marvel at an array of artifacts discovered during excavations, including beautifully crafted pottery, inscriptions, and grave markers. Each piece tells its own story and contributes to a greater understanding of ancient Athenian life.

Cultural Experience

The neighborhood surrounding the Keramikos archaeological site is dotted with chic cafes, art studios, and local shops, providing a vibrant cultural experience. After exploring the ancient grounds, visitors can relax in one of the many cafes that offer a taste of traditional Greek coffee, or they can indulge in contemporary culinary delights. Local artisans often showcase their crafts, allowing for an engaging shopping experience where you can find unique souvenirs that reflect the artistic spirit of the area.

Keramikos Today

Today, Keramikos is a dynamic neighborhood that balances its historical significance with modern life. The area has seen a resurgence, particularly among young Athenians and artists, contributing to a lively urban scene filled with energy and creativity. Many streets are lined with colorful murals and art installations, transforming this historical neighborhood into an open-air gallery that attracts both locals and tourists alike.

Visiting Keramikos

For visitors planning to explore Keramikos, the best way to experience the area is on foot. The neighborhood is easily accessible from the city center and enjoys an excellent public transportation network. While wandering the streets, take time to admire the architecture that reflects the city’s layered history—from ancient ruins to neoclassical buildings.

With a plethora of cultural offerings, Keramikos is more than just a place to visit; it’s an invitation to experience the past while embracing the present.
