Turkish Airlines runs Touristanbul, a free guided city tour for passengers with a connecting flight and a layover of 6 to 24 hours, provided both flights are on the same Turkish Airlines reservation (ticket numbers starting with 235). Tours cover the Historical Peninsula, with stops at Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, and Sultanahmet Mosque, plus a look at the Bosphorus.
- Register at the Touristanbul desk on the Arrivals level — allow about 45 minutes to get there, including passport control.
- Check in at least 30 minutes before your chosen tour departs.
- Leave at least 1 hour 25 minutes between the tour ending and your next flight.
- You’re picked up and dropped back at the airport as part of the tour, and meals are included.
Doing It Yourself
Not eligible for Touristanbul, or want to go at your own pace? A taxi or metro/Marmaray combination gets you to Sultanahmet in roughly 45–60 minutes each way.
