The Lille Christmas Market (Village de Noël) returns to Place Rihour from Wednesday 18 November to Wednesday 30 December 2026, a two-minute walk from the Grand Place, where the big Ferris wheel goes up for the season. Entry is free, the chalets sell crafts, decorations and northern French food, and the whole thing sits about ten minutes on foot from Lille-Flandres station. That makes Lille an easy day trip from Paris, Brussels or London, and below you’ll find the 2026 dates and hours, what to eat, how to get there and where to leave your bags.

Where to Find the Lille Christmas Market
The village is set up on Place Rihour, the square in front of the Palais Rihour, which also houses the tourist office. Around 90 wooden chalets line the square, according to the organiser, selling handmade gifts, decorations, jewellery, toys and food from the region. There’s a chalet for Father Christmas and a few rides for children.
The main entrance faces the Grand Place. The organiser’s tip is to use the second entrance on the left side, next to the Rihour metro exit, which is usually quicker at busy times. From the market it’s a short walk into Vieux Lille, where the shop windows on Rue de la Grande Chaussée and Rue Esquermoise are decorated for the season.

The Grande Roue on the Grand Place
Every winter a Ferris wheel about 50 metres tall, with 36 gondolas, goes up on the Grand Place next to the column of the Goddess. It usually opens at the same time as the chalets and stays up into January. From the top you can see the Vieille Bourse, the belfry of the Chamber of Commerce and the rooftops of Vieux Lille. Ticket prices and 2026 hours are published by the Lille tourist office closer to opening, so check there before you go.
What to Eat and Drink at the Lille Christmas Market
Lille is in French Flanders, and the food at the chalets leans that way: rich, cheesy and made for cold evenings. Things to look for:
- Vin chaud (mulled wine) and hot chocolate, sold at several chalets around the square.
- Cheese dishes such as tartiflette and raclette, plus anything with Maroilles, the strong local cheese.
- Waffles, crêpes, gingerbread and other sweet snacks to eat as you walk.
- Seasonal Christmas beers from northern French and Belgian breweries in the bars around the Grand Place.
For a sit-down meal, the estaminets (traditional Flemish taverns) of Vieux Lille serve carbonade flamande and welsh, the local cheese-and-beer dish. Book ahead on December weekends.

Tips for Your Visit
- Come after dark for the lights, around 17:00 in December, but arrive earlier if you want to shop without the crowds.
- Use the side entrance by the Rihour metro exit when the main entrance is packed.
- Most chalets take cards, but keep some cash for small purchases.
- Plan around 24 and 25 December: the market closes at 18:00 on Christmas Eve and stays shut on Christmas Day.
- Leave the suitcase behind. The aisles between the chalets are narrow and get crowded on weekend evenings.
