Musée Fabre info
Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a unique experience, Musee Fabre is a must-visit. The Jewel of provincial museums, the Musée Fabre Montpellier houses an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks spanning from the 15th to the 21st century. This building owes its origin (and its name) to Montpellier painter François-Xavier Fabre, who donated many of his works in 1820s.
From Rubens to Veronese to Rigaud to Zurbarán, the museum’s paintings, and sculptures are displayed in chronological order, which is very convenient. Here you'll find works by renowned artists such as Delacroix, Courbet, as well as European masterpieces by Rubens, Titian, and Rembrandt. In total, this museum houses at least 800 works, 900 engravings, and 3500 drawings from the Renaissance to the present day.
Musée Fabre also hosts several temporary exhibitions throughout the year; check their website to see what's on during your visit. Fabre Museum opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The museum is easily accessible, within walking distance from Place de la Comédie. To get from Gare Saint Roch to the Musee Fabre, you can take the tramway. The Line 1 tramway stops at 'Louis Blanc' station, which is just a few minutes walk from the museum.
