About Arc de Triomphe

Écusson is a historic neighborhood in Montpellier known for its beautiful architecture, narrow streets, and charming squares. Once you are here, don’t miss one of its top attractions - The Gate of Peyrou, also called the Triumphal Arch. It is located at the east end of the Jardin des Plantes (Park du Peyrou) in the center of Montpellier. Porte du Peyrou was designed by Francois d’Orbay and built in 1693 in celebration of the ‘sun king’ Louis XIV, the benefactor of the city. The shield and badge of the city of Montpellier are fixed at the top of the arch.
