Baños, is a city in central Ecuador. It is the second most populous city in the province and an important tourist resort. Known as the 'gateway to the Amazon', as it is the last large city located in the mountains before reaching the jungle.
Baños is situated on the slopes of the Tungurahua volcano. Baños is a good starting point for exploring the remote Llanganates National Park and other points of interest such as Cerro Hermoso. The city itself has a city park near the cathedral. There are numerous waterfalls nearby: Virgen de Agua Santa, Inés María, Agoyán, El Manto de la Novia, Pailón del Diablo and Machay. Baños is also known for the production of taffy candies called melcocha made from cane sugar and for the small craft shops selling the famous parrots made from balsa wood.
