Learn more about Algeciras

Algeciras is a small port town that serves as the link between the south of Spain and Africa. When Franco dictated over Spain, the town’s border with “The Rock”, Gibraltar, was closed, and Spanish workers employed in the British naval dockyards arrived in the industrial town to work.

Algeciras’ close proximity to Morocco has a strong Arab influence on the town, which is reflected in the Moroccan Quarter with its traditional tea rooms and Moroccan bakeries.

The traditional Port of Algeciras has a buzzing atmosphere and is home to many restaurants where you can sample local delicacies like Abajá, fish and seafood cooked with saffron, onion and garlic. From the rooftops and terraces of the local restaurants, you can also enjoy captivating views over The Rock of Gibraltar and Plaza Alta.
