The main Lisbon Christmas market fills Rossio square in Baixa from mid-November until just before Christmas, and a few minutes uphill Wonderland Lisboa takes over Parque Eduardo VII with an ice rink, a Ferris wheel and rows of stalls. December in Lisbon is mild by European standards, so you can walk between the markets, the lights on Rua Augusta and the giant tree on Praça do Comércio in a light jacket. Below are the expected 2026 dates, opening hours, what to eat, how to get around and where to leave your bags.
Arriving or leaving on the same day? Store your bags near Rossio and see the market without dragging a suitcase over the cobbles.

Rossio: The Classic Lisbon Christmas Market
Rossio is where most people mean when they talk about the Lisbon Christmas market. Decorated stalls and Christmas trees fill the square between the National Theatre and the two fountains, selling crafts, decorations, sweets and hot drinks. At the last edition the market was open Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 to 22:00, and to 23:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and the evenings before public holidays.
A free Christmas train (Comboio de Natal) usually runs from Rossio through the decorated streets of Baixa in the afternoons and evenings, which is a good way to see the lights with children. From the square it’s a short walk down Rua Augusta to Praça do Comércio, where the city puts up a giant Christmas tree that lights up every evening.

Wonderland Lisboa in Parque Eduardo VII
Wonderland Lisboa is the biggest festive fair in the city, set on the slope of Parque Eduardo VII above Marquês de Pombal. It has a Ferris wheel with heated cabins, an ecological ice rink, a Santa’s house, food stalls and crafts. Entry to the park is free; you pay for the rides and the rink. The organisers say more than one million people visited the last edition, and in 2026 European Best Destinations placed it in its top five Christmas markets in Europe.
At the 2025/26 edition, weekday hours were 16:00 to 22:00 (Friday to 23:00) until mid-December, then 15:00 to 22:00 (Friday to midnight). Saturdays ran 10:00 to 23:00 and Sundays 10:00 to 22:00, with short days on 24 and 31 December. Expect a similar pattern in 2026 and check the Wonderland Lisboa website for this year’s timetable. Weekday afternoons are the calm time to go.
Other Festive Spots in the City
- Campo Pequeno: a crafts, design and gourmet market inside the old bullring, held over a few weekends. At the last edition it opened 11:00 to 21:00 with a small entry fee and free entry for young children.
- Praça da Figueira: Figueira Christmas Gourmet is the food market next to Rossio, with chef demonstrations and stalls from late afternoon.
- Alvalade: a neighbourhood market on Avenida da Igreja, scheduled for 10 to 20 December 2026.
- Praça do Comércio: the giant tree and the lights-on show, which usually comes with fireworks and a concert in late November.
What to Eat and Drink at a Lisbon Christmas Market
- Castanhas assadas: roasted chestnuts sold in paper cones from street carts all over Baixa.
- Bolo rei: the Portuguese Christmas cake with candied fruit and nuts, sold whole or by the slice.
- Filhós and sonhos: fried dough sweets dusted with sugar and cinnamon, a Christmas staple.
- Ginjinha: sour cherry liqueur, served in tiny cups at the bars on Largo de São Domingos, right next to Rossio.
- Crêpes, waffles and hot chocolate at Wonderland, where you’ll also find some vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Getting Around
| To | How |
|---|---|
| Rossio market | Metro Rossio (green line) or Restauradores (blue line); Rossio train station is across the square |
| Wonderland Lisboa | Metro Marquês de Pombal (blue or yellow line), then about 5 minutes uphill |
| Campo Pequeno | Metro Campo Pequeno (yellow line) |
| From the airport | Metro red line, change at Alameda for the green line to Rossio, or a taxi in about 20–30 minutes |
| Rossio to Wonderland on foot | Walk up Avenida da Liberdade, about 25 minutes |
Avenida da Liberdade has its own street lights in December, so walking from Rossio to Parque Eduardo VII is a nice way to link the two markets. Wear shoes with grip: the limestone pavements get slippery after rain.
