Ragusa is a small town of Sicily, but rich in history, art, and culture. It’s located in the South East of the island, between Syracuse and Victoria. Although the city was literally devastated by an earthquake in 1693, the reconstructed buildings were selected by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
After the violent earthquake that destroyed the city in the seventeenth century, the inhabitants of Ragusa revived the city by erecting elegant buildings that became the emblem of Sicilian Baroque. Despite this new architectural style, the city maintained its Medieval soul. Nowadays Ragusa is a beloved movie set. Inspector Montalbano, the renowned Italian television series, is partly set there.
